We seem to be getting a lot of inquiries for private virtual worlds

A medical Conference center; a shopping Mall; and a museum are under discussion.

So good 3D script writing for the environments, followed by 3D models some with animation and Ai

Cheers

I am desperate to recruit environment modellers, the colleges do not train 3D artists in low poly... Virtual worlds are our main business getting good people is a nightmare.

What do you do Tony? The skills shortage is acute at the moment rigth across the board - in the US computer science graduate numbers are down 30% and Indian companies are coming to recruit from the UK .... the digital explosion is having a major effect and this has lead to opportunities for many platforms and product. I'm running an event around this area early next year and would like to hook up with you.

I am the MD of T3D and we specialise in delivering the built environment and delivering thru the web, all navigable all interactive. Current projects are 14 sq. kilometers for the new bridge over Mersey, a virtual Edinburgh castle and other projects involving cityscapes. I have given keynotes at Internet world and am involved again in 2008. What is the event you are planning

Hi Tony - I run conferences and conduct marketing research and am following through on this topic which first raised its head when I was part of a team researching and interviewing the global MMO key players for a client report 2 years ago. I am very aware of the skills shortage for the games industry and the wider digital sector across all disciplines - even Google finds it tough! The event I mentioned is taking shape right now and I'd be delighted to talk with you. When is convenient and can you email me privately off-forum martine@angils.org
Thx

Switching to Unity3D

Since Blink 3D (like Adobe Atmosphere before it) has failed to thrive, I have switched to Unity3D. I am now in the process of converting my Blink projects to Unity. Check out the Unity version of the Virtual Roman House at http://www.medievalist.net/unityworlds/romanhouse.htm and the Virtual Byzantine Church at http://www.medievalist.net/unityworlds/crossinoctagContinue

Certification of VW for "Fit for Purpose" or higher?

If it was necessary to get a airworthiness certificate web.alive would be the only one at present to pass. Solid designed (de-facto) engine, tested for over 6 years in UT, etc. Server-side security, CRM data, usability, automatic VOIP 3D spacial audio embedded, password protection, admin control (ability to kick, ban, etc,) staight of the peg or bespoke environments. See http://mellanium.co.uk/application-areas.php for sample application… Continue

"Indie" game engines vs De-Facto 3D game engines

"Indie" game engines do not have the stability/past performance record to achieve the required stability for professional applications. Factors of security, functionality, re-usability. tutorials, user knowledge has been acquired and built for over 10 years. Why try to invent the wheel; just find new ways to use it, is the challange now. Costs; we can provide a be-spoke VW using web.alive from £25K and can host for around £1K/Month for 20 peak port users. Why bother to create your own?

Immersive Environments using Web.Alive

There are game engines, originally created for development of computer/video games, which can be used for non-game virtual worlds. Unreal Engine (UE) by Epic Games ( http://www.unrealtechnology.com ) is probably the strongest, robust and most popular. UE is a complete 3D development framework for PCs, Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3, providing a vast array of core technologies, content creation tools, and support infrastructure.
